The Journey Continues

Hey,

The holidays are ending! I hope all of you managed to finish all (or some) of your holiday homework. The latter half of the year's approaching, and with it, many fun and exciting events like Mini-Olympics, Night Hike, and even GTC! :D

I hope that all of ya will look forward to these new activities with enthusiasm. If there's one thing you guys should have taken away from AC, it's team bonding.

Random Quote: Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success

So remember to have fun, and most importantly, stay together as a patrol throughout the many awesome activities in the months to come.

Cheers,

Annual Camp

Hey,

Hope all of you had a great Annual Camp! Though we didn't get an epic result like first or second, I'm still happy that we tried our best and managed fourth. And of course, let's not forget that "it's the patrol bonding that matters" (I still have no idea who said this first).

Despite some setbacks (epic rain) and mistakes, we managed to put up a good showing in the end. As they say, it's the experience that really counts, and I'm hopeful that each of you will take away something from this 5-day, once a year experience. Enjoy the rest of your holidays!

Cheers,
Jun Xiang

MYCTs

Hey,

MYCTs have started! Hope you all had awesome English and Chinese papers. Work hard for your MYCTs cuz Mid-Year results count towards patrol standi- I mean cuz it's for your own good. Although if you're still reading this blog it probably means you aren't studying hard. BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. Anyway, good luck for all your MYCTs! :D

Random images ftw!

Basking in the Glow of Annual Show...

Hey,

Annual Show has just ended, and the MYCTs are around the corner! Hope y'all learnt a lot about what goes on behind the scenes at a scouts campfire. A simple 3 hour production can take a lot more effort than meets the eye! More importantly, though, I hope that it was a fun experience for all of you.

For the Sec 3s, this is already your third Annual Show. We'll be having Venturez Funk Stuff next year! So do look forward to it.

For the Sec 2s, this is already your second Annual Show, so you guys will be the "veterans" next year. Don't let your enthusiasm for Annual Show die down, and work hard to make next year's Annual Show a success!

For the Sec 1s, I hope that your first Annual Show was an eye-opening experience. Try and attend future campfires with an open mind and open heart. Always remember that the scout group has spent lots of sweat, tears, and blood (okay fine maybe not so much) on their production. I also hope that you guys will be encouraged to attend more campfires in the future!

To All: Good luck for your MYCTs! Study hard and get awesome grades :D As Yi Ming says, "pass already can lah".

Cheers,
Jun Xiang

6 Days Away... and Counting

Hey,

Hope all of you guys are having fun in your respective Annual Show Committees! Annual Show is less than a week away, so I hope you guys (those that read this blog and many who don't) will put in one last burst of effort to make this a success. To quote Yen Ter: "Continue with the great work and we will have an incredible Annual Show!"

Do look forward to Annual Show with enthusiastic anticipation, especially the Sec 1s. It will be an experience unlike any other, truly.

Cheers,
Jun Xiang

Annual Show!

Hey,

So here's a short post on Annual Show (particularly for the Sec 1s who don't know what it's like). Essentially, as Scouts, each Scout Group holds an annual campfire and invites other scout groups to attend their campfire. The more ossum your campfire, the better your reputation and the more prestige you get. So campfires are an important way of showing other scout groups how cool you are and stuff. 01 has traditionally had the most awesome campfire in Singapore (I'm not joking) and it's quite famous. The location for our campfire is normally jam-packed on the day itself and everything is planned quite nicely.

However, the campfire won't just be ossum on its own. Everyone in 01 Scouts plays a crucial role in this campfire, from the (mildy sian) banner committee to the more funky dance committees. Don't get discouraged if you didn't get into the committee of your choice, as after all, we're all working towards helping 01 and making this Annual Show a success. So, remember to bring your enthusiasm and excitement for all Annual Show preps and Annual Show itself. I'm sure that it will be an eye-opening experience for the Sec 1s and a wildly exciting event for the rest.

The Burning Issue of Campfires...

Hey,

Recently there have been a series of campfire opportunities for you guys, such as the Zhong Hua campfire, St Margaret's Campfire, and St Andrew's Campfire. I hope to see a better patrol turnout than what I've seen so far (the highest ever turnout was 3 wtf) and a common trend for campfires is to have the PL, APL, and 1 other guy there. I can sorta understand if the Sec 1s don't really want to go for too many campfires, trust me, I've been a Sec 1 before. But for the Sec 2s and Asyraf, I really hope that you guys will try and sign up for more campfires.

Campfires are a unique experience where we can go and have fun as a patrol, and many of the ones I recommend (like St Andrews) are seriously fun. Don't regard going for campfires as a chore, because it isn't. I sincerely hope that you guys will set a good example for the Sec 1s and go for as many campfires as possible. (It's not impossible to have a high patrol attendance for campfires, look at Eagle) Just put in that extra effort to make your life in 01 way more fun and meaningful. I doubt you'll regret it.

Hope to see a better campfire turn-out in the future,
Jun Xiang

My first Patrol Log XP

Hi guys,

jus finished my first patrol log and posting it here as an e-version? critisicm is welcome XP

Jason

FALCON 2011 PATROL LOG
DATE: 21ST MARCH
SENDER: SOME RANDOM SEC 1 KNOWN AS JASON
RECIPIENT :__( you insert your name here, you know, like in your head as according to act 11.47 of the National Public Library, “It is a chargeable offense to deface a book that is property of the National Public Library of Singapore”. Ahem.)

Chapter: Term 2
Mission: Act 1

And so, today was the inevitable end of the world, as we, the sec 1s of 01 Raffles Scout Group knew it. The terror of the single, lone sheet of paper placed upon our desk was enough to drive some of us into fits of hysteria.

That’s right, as maybe some of you post-apocalyptic survivors who are reading this patrol log may know, it was the WORLD SCOUTS BADGE TEST(cue Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6)(Chester screams out, “Fun!”)

Now as the untrained observer, I drew a general conclusion that most people didn’t study for the test. For those who did, I would give you a ‘free ‘no-need-to-do’5 push-ups coupon, however, that power lies with the victor of the war, and that title clearly screams “Yi Ming”.

Note to the sec one who will get his hands on this very, trusty guide to surviving the yearly holocaust (for all sec ones at least), you should better get what I’m about to tell you into your system if you want to win the rat race.

Step 1) After SUTC, do not go home and sleep. Instead, take your 01 Raffles Scout Badge Handbook and put it under your pillow and sleep.  Make sure you sleep on your pillow.  This extremely effective method is known as osmosis,  and since it has such a weird and fancy name for it, it probably works.

Step 2) Chill out and breeze through the test with no problems at all. Watching your friends suffer should provide some entertainment for the next 39 mins of the 40 mins test.

The small  print: This is a lousy method. Osmosis actually refers to the movement of water molecules through a selectively-permeable membrane down a water potential gradient. Therefore, it is not the posh name for absorbing knowledge as you sleep. Consumers use is at his own discreet.

Step 3) Ignore what was on top of this line.

Now as I was saying, most people didn’t study. I had the extreme fortune of actually studying, during an inconspicuous period in the morning know as ‘Mother Tongue’ where soothing words of some flowing language provided me with just the right conducive environment to study in…

WAIT A SECONFD!!! What was I doing studying in Chinese Class?!

Ok, scrap that last part. Enough of digressing, on to the main show! XP

The test was basically an assassin in the night. History, as all of you know, is one of our 6 core subjects. The test secretly incorporated that subject into the test, which adds on further proof that the GC of 2011 are in cahoots with the history teachers of RI to bring the 01 Raffles Scout Group down to guard against sloppy homework after SUTC. Wait…forget what I just said.

So, it went something like this.

3. Where did Lord Baden Powell die?

Some sec one’s answer: In his house.

So from that one line, you can see why surviving a nuclear fall out is better than our test XP.

Part 2

I sit, and look around me. The fate of my fellow laborers, their plight, oh it breaks my heart. But what can I do? I am but one man, against the might, of the fourth Reich, where supreme chancellor ’GC’ rules. –Excerpt from war survivor.

So after the apocalypse, we were sent down to the labor camp, where I saw a number of my kind being worked for the ‘greater good’. Some of my seniors, despite surving through so much, including the SUTComet, and the GTClash, were now working with their heads bowed down, their spirits broken, reduced to scrubbing pots and pans…

That was a very biased account of what happened. What really happened was this.

Today, we cleaned up our equipment. This is very important as we use our equipment on a regular basis and we are responsible for them.

Random reader holding this patrol log, this may sound very clichéd and stupid, but it will all make sense as you sleep on a mud-caked tent and increase the risk of you getting cancer from the charred bits on the pots and pans, and most importantly, the regret you will feel at the funeral of a random person who got hit by the axe head that flew off as you were swinging to vigorously.

Another thing you will learn, is the friendship and warmth of the brotherhood of scouting. As you hold up one corner of the wet tent, with other scouts, and run crazily across the field, your heart will fill with joy and you will truly feel the scouting brotherhood…

Ok, choose to believe that or not, but that’s how I felt, albeit on a much, much, smaller scale. But seriously, running around with a wet tent in your hands is definitely one of those bonding activities.
And so as we reach the third piece of paper, in order to save ink and the environment, and to allow a certain someone to escape and do his homework and revise for his Japanese test tomorrow,(and then go to sleep XP) here’s wishing you the best of luck in your scouting journey( unless of course, you’re not a scout, but that can’t be since the den rules state clearly that no non-scout is allowed into the den under ’pain of death’ or something like that, which means GET OUT BOYS BRIGADE or NCC or NPCC!!!)

SUTC

Hey,

So as this all-important and awesome camp has drawn to a close, it is only fitting that I make a random blog post about it. For those of you who have completed SUTC, be proud of it as you have every right to do so. For those who felt like giving up at any point during the camp, look back and marvel. And for those who ponned or missed any part of the camp, envy your friends (:D).

On a serious note though, I hope that you guys found SUTC to be a meaningful experience. I hope that from SUTC, the things you guys take away won't just be buff muscles, but the more important things like greater batch cohesion, discipline, care and concern for others, and initiative. Especially for the Sec 1s, take this as a kickstart for you guys to start speaking up more and to start playing a bigger role in 01. The fact that you guys are the youngest batch should not limit or restrict you in any way. And above all, I hope you guys bear the lessons you learnt from SUTC in the forefront of your minds and hold true to them throughout your years in 01.

Cheers,
Jun Xiang

Overnight is... Over!

Hey,

So I hope the Sec 1s found Overnight to be highly fun, exciting and most importantly, meaningful. This will be the start of your 01 life, so remember it. Hopefully, Fright Night won't be the only thing you guys remember about this camp like 2 years later.

Overall, I think we did decently as a patrol, from stuff like the Cooking Race, to our Campfire Performance. Although we kinda screwed up by losing the tent bag (and I forgot some stuff teehee), I'm quite sure that no one is perfect. What's important is that we improve from what we learnt this time round and become better the next time. (Which means watching over the tent bag. Like really carefully.)

And, to (hopefully) make this post moar interesting, I shall post 2 pictures from Overnight!

Asyraf + Zhi Long!

Sec 1 Orientation!

Hey,

So this Saturday we'll have the Sec 1 Orientation! Judging by the awesome trailer posted at the 01 Raffles facebook group (go watch it if you haven't yet) it's probably some damn cool shit, so make sure you don't miss it. Especially the Sec 1s. Since you'll get to learn more about your J1s and how 01 activities are like in general. Remember to bring a water bottle and 2 pairs of socks. And I have to bring a change of clothes. Which doesn't bode well for my future. Gee gee axe axe lah. Bottom line: COME DOWN FOR IT!

Have fun,
JX

Sec 1s!

Hey,

So I bet everyone is really excited that the new Sec 1s are here! (Cue in Yays and Cheers). K anyway I hope you guys will be nice to the Sec 1s and make them feel really welcomed. AND I HOPE A SEC 1 SHALL START POSTING ON THIS BLOG SO IT DOESN'T DIE. Hmm. Anyway, if we all work hard and (hopefully) not die, I'm sure Falcon will own this year. So be moar enthusiastic lol. Especially Sec 2s. And cheer louder also. Oh, and don't forget about patrol PT. We shall all become manlier if we spam PT. Like some day.

Fouble

Lol wow so today's act was called Fouble, which apparently was coined from "double the fun". It comprised of Fitness, Footdrills, Flagstaff, and Finale (which we were Forced to skip lol). So uh, our fitness failed. Our footdrills weren't too good. Our flagstaff couldn't erect (teehee). And the finale was killed. Altogether a fun act, but we really needz to improve on our various skills and suchnot. Especially so since SUTC IS COMING SOON *gasp*

On a side note, Sec 1s are coming in on Monday! <3

On a even sider note, our patrol cupboard now looks awesome(r) cuz I removed the retarded black words which I painstakingly cut out and replaced it with printed font that looks cooler. Hopefully we'll somehow make it to the top 6 for patrol cupboard rankings. We can but hope.

On a dark side note, THIS BLOG IS DYING/DEAD/DEADED. Maybe an influx of Sec 1s will revive it. Mebbe.

Happy CNY!

Hey,

Happy Chinese Year to all Falcon Scouts! (And some who aren't)

Pass It On

Pass it on, pass it on, pass it pass it pass it on...

And so it was that we had a really imba campfire songs + flagstaff decorum act. Continuing with the 1 act tradition of no PT, we jumped straight into learning some campfire songs, one of which was the source of the activity's name.

Various Sec 2s and 3s went up (or were forced up) to lead the various campfire songs like the Cannibal King, Under the Silvery Moon, Father Abraham, and other classics. Sec 2s and 3s can approach their friendly recreational committee Sec 2s for other campfire songs and whatnot if they're interested.

Later on in the act, things got (slightly) more serious. We were originally given 4 minutes 30 seconds to change from PE kit to full scout uniform. Upon failing this timing miserably, this evolved into a mini changing parade, where we had to change back into our PE kit, pump, then change back into scout uniform, and do crunches. Fortunately, it ended soon and we proceeded on for the flagstaff decorum. This was the part where we clarified our doubts as to the proper procedure during a flag-raising and lowering. Hilarious moments ensued, as various volunteers (including me) went up to try and demonstrate the proper procedure. Roflmao.

Originally, we were supposed to practise with an actual flag staff, but due to the wet weather, this aspect was cancelled. And so, after a brief practise with an imaginary flag staff, the activity came to an end and we were dismissed from the Raja Block Foyer.

I hope that everyone learnt something from today's act, be it the fun and awesome campfire songs, or the proper way to carry out a solemn Scouts flag raising and lowering. And of course, I hope you guys had fun as well :D

P.S. POST ON THIS BLOG TYVM

Skeelz Upgrade

Hey,

So I bet everyone feels really upgraded and shiny after today's activity. We did quite a diverse range of activities, including, but not limited to, fire-lighting, foot-drills, and orienteering. We were supposed to do knot-tying but we ended up (k)not doing it. Hur hur hur. Oh and we skipped SRIT too. Lol. Turns out we took waay too long in the other stations. We also had to pump 24 later for mistakes incurred during footdrills .__.

As a sorta "finale" we had an inter-patrol race, where each member took turns to run up to the respective J1, either on their own or in pairs, where they would receive a task to do. The race would be completed after 10 tasks were done. Naturally we got all the GL tasks like 50 pushups (poor me) leg raises, Burpies (how the shit do I spell this) planks, sit-ups, and any other weird exercise you can think of. We came really close to becoming 1st (AHEM KF) but we lost narrowly to KF. Still, we ended up at an awesome 2nd place! Hopefully we'll try harder next time and maybe end up improving.

P.S. CAN SOMEONE POST ON THIS BLOG D:
P.P.S CAN YOU GUYS DO YOUR PLOGS LOL
P.P.P.S. Falcon is totally owning this year
P.P.P.P.S. Damnit I'm gonna change the blog skin.

Goal Setting

Hey, so basically we had an act called "Goal Setting". What this means is that we spend 2 hours doing PT and 1 hour doing the actual goal setting. Which is quite retarded/weird/normal. Anyway we set up some patrol goals (which Darren hasn't sent out yet *cough cough*) relating to the various areas of discipline, attendance, and fitness.

Hopefully you guys will remember to maintain our standards of discipline and do simple things like tuck in your shirts and not fidget during horseshoe. Otherwise we'll just die for SUTC. And JUSTIN COME FOR ACT MOAR OFTEN TYVM. Yeah. Other than that, I don't really think we have many other issues so yeah...

PS: Remember to do your plogs roflmao.
PPS: It's not a coincidence that neither the PL nor APL have been assigned plogs yet.
PPS: ^ Nah jk.

Hai

Ohai. This shall be the blog of Falcon 2011! May it live long and prosper (unlike last year's *cough cough*).

Random Falcon Quote:
